Grünstein (1,302 m) and Archenkanzel: 6 hours, ascent 1,200 m, descent 1,200 m
Start: Hamerstiel parking lot in Schönau
From the parking lot, we take trail No. 445 to the Grünstein peak. First we follow the broad path through the woods, then turn left and climb a narrow path, which leads in many steep switchbacks to the Grünstein peak (1,302 m) which offers a panoramic view of the Watzmann. After a short descent we reach the Grünsteinhütte (possibility of a stop for refreshments). The hike will then continue over alpine pastures towards the Kuhrointalm, a great spot for a rest and refreshments. After another 20 minutes of hiking, we will reach the viewpoint Archenkanzel, which offers a spectacular view of the Königssee. From there, we will return to the Kuhrointalm and then descend on a forest track through the woods to Königssee. We will return with bus 841 to Berchtesgaden train station, and continue with bus 846 to Hintersee (free with the guest card).
