Hard Trekking Tour

Monday, 22/7:  From the landing place Salet on the Königssee to the alpine chalet Wasseralm (1416 m), ascent 700 m, descent 80m, walking time 3-4 hours.
Meeting point: Tourist information Königssee
Bus 846 from Hintersee to Berchtesgaden station, then bus 841 to the pier at Königssee, boat trip to Salet (approx. 14 €)
After arriving by boat in Salet we walk to the nearby Saletalm and on to the Obersee. Continuing along the right lake shore, we walk below a rock wall to the Fischunkelalm (620 m). The path now leads past a waterfall, then in switchbacks uphill and across a steep gully, where some caution is required. With the help of steel ropes this passage can be managed, and we reach a flatter terrain. The path now leads across the forest to the nearby Wasseralm (1,423 m)
Tuesday, 23/7/: From the Wasseralm via Hochbrunnsulzen to the Kärlingerhaus, ascent 1000 m, descent 800 m, walking time 7-8 hours.
After a bit of steep climbing, we will arrive at a small lake. Crossing rocks, perhaps some snow fields and a few rock bands we hike steadily uphill until we reach the highest point Hochbrunnsulzen (2, 360 m) where we have a view over the Steinernes Meer (sea of stones). From here we descend across rocks and perhaps some snow to the mountain hut Kärlingerhaus (1,631 m) near the Funtensee.
Wednesday, 24/7/: From Kärlingerhaus via Saugasse and Eiskapelle (Ice Chapel) to St. Bartholomä/Königssee, ascent 340 m, decent 1360 m, walking time 6-7 hours
From Kärlingerhaus we follow the trail down “Saugasse”, which takes us in many steep switchbacks across the forest to the Königssee. After a short stretch along the lakeside, we hike up to the Eiskapelle (ice chapel) (850 m) and from there to St. Bartholomä with its famous sanctuary, where we take the boat back across the Königssee (approx. 11 €). We return by bus 841 to Berchtesgaden station, then take bus 846 to Gmundbrücke and walk from there to the youth hostel.
