Monday, July 22: From the middle station of the Jennerbahn to the Carl-von-Stahl-Haus (1,736 m), ascent 700 m, descent 150 m, walking time 3 – 4 hours
Starting point: Königssee, Jennerbahn middle station (ca. 16€)
From Hintersee bus 846 to Berchtesgaden, bus 841 to Jennerbahn.
We hike through a meadow towards Mitterkaseralm. After the first steep section the climb becomes flatter and leads into a forest. On this forest path we climb left to the fully catered Mitterkaseralm (1,534 m). After a short break we hike up to a saddle east of the Jenner. Here the trail that runs from the top station of the Jennerbahn intersects.
We continue towards the Schneibsteinhaus, then turn left shortly before the hut and climb up to the Carl-von-Stahl Haus (1,733 m).
Tuesday, July 23: From the Carl-von-Stahl-Haus to the Gotzenalm (1,685 m): Ascent 700 m, descent 700 m altitude, walking time 4 – 5 hours
From the Carl-von-Stahl Haus we follow the marked trail leading to the Königsbachalm. At the Königsbachalm we first take the path that branches off the road to the left through sparse forest, then across alpine pastures, then further on the forest road until we reach the Gotzenalm, today’s destination. After we have settled in, we can take an evening walk to the viewpoint Feuerpalfen, 1,741 m. The view from there down to the Königssee with St.Bartolomä as well as the gigantic Watzmann east face directly opposite is overwhelming.
Wednesday, July 24: From the Gotzenalm to Hinterbrand (1,156 m), ascent 200 m, descent 750 m altitude, walking time 4 – 5 hours
If you didn’t feel like it the day before, you can still go to the viewing point Feuerpalfen before returning. We leave the forest road and hike back to the Königsbachalmen on a wide trail first a bit uphill and then on a panoramic path past the middle station of the Jennerbahn and continue to Hinterbrand.
Bus 838 back to Berchtesgaden, bus 846 from Berchtesgaden to the stop Gmundbrücke to walk to the youth hostel.
