Blaueishütte and Blaueisgletscher (Blue Ice Glacier): 6-7 hours, ascent 900 m, descent 900 m
Start: CVJM Hintersee
From Hintersee, we will follow the lake edge to the left through the Zauberwald (enchanted forest) to the Seeklause parking lot (circa 20 minutes), and from there climb through the woods to the mountain hut Blaueishütte. The path climbs steadily along primarily wide stretches of trail without any technical difficulties to the Schärtenalm at 1,362 m (2 hours), an alpine chalet where we can stop for refreshments. From the Schärtenalm, the path continues flatly around a rocky outcrop then over a bridge along a rockface to the lower station of the goods cablecar of the mountain refuge. From here, we will follow a series of switchbacks below the rocky outcrops of Steinberg and Schärtenspitze to the Blaueishütte (1,680 m). This spot offers a wonderful panoramic view of the Hintersee, the surrounding mountain peaks, and the Blaueisgletscher. There is the possibility to continue the hike to the glacier (additional 30 minutes). The trail to the glacier continues from the Blaueishütte over many stone steps and some scree (circa 200 m). The descent follows the same path.
