Maria Gern via the Almbachklamm Gorge: 5 hours, 500 m ascent, 500 m descent
We take the bus from Hintersee via Berchtesgaden to the Kugelmühle (free with the guest card). There we start our hike through the spectacular Almbachklamm gorge (6 Euro entrance fee). We walk over numerous bridges, footbridges, stairs and a tunnel along the bubbling brook (metal grids through which you can look down: A head for heights is required!) It takes about 1.5 hours to walk to the end of the gorge, but we will make plenty of stops for photos, as the waterfalls and pools are beautiful.
After the Almbachklamm gorge, we continue uphill a little further along a forest path. Next, we will walk a bit on an asphalt road to Maria Gern. This is a baroque pilgrimage church that we can visit. There is also a beer garden and a beautiful view of the Watzmann massif.
From Maria Gern, we first follow a small path along a stream, then downhill through meadows and farms to Berchtesgaden (approx. 1 hour). In Berchtesgaden we can visit the town center and have an ice cream before taking the bus back to Hintersee.
