Schärtenspitze

Schärtenspitze: 7-8 hours, ascent 1,500m, descent 1, 400m
Start: Bus 846 from Hintersee in the direction of Ramsau, bus stop Ramsau Oberwirt, (bus free of cost with the guest card), 15-minute walk to Pfeiffenmacherbrücke.
The hike starts on a forest street that leads towards Eckaualm; from there we will follow a narrow switchback path through the woods to the Hochalm-Diensthütte (service hut), where we will turn right towards Eisbodenscharte (wind gap). We will continue through the forest and on through increasingly sparse vegetation until we reach a rock face. After traversing a scree field, we will climb through a gully using a securely attached steel rope to reach the Eisbodenscharte. There we will enjoy an amazing view of Hintersee. The final 600 meters to the Schärtenspitze (2,153 meters) follow the ridge, which is always visible from the Hochalm. The exposed section of the trail is again secured with a steel rope. The wall to the Hochalm is an almost vertical drop. From the peak, you have a wonderful view of the Hochkaltermassiv, the west flank of the Watzmann and the Reiter Alps. The descent leads over the steep regular path to the mountain hut Blaueishütte with its legendary tarts. Strengthened, we will descend 850 meters along paths that lead directly down to the Hintersee; as an alternative, we can take the forest road via the Schärtenalm.
